The women’s affiliate of Israel’s National Religious Party is determined to form its own faction before the party’s next convention. Tova Sanhedrai, who heads the National Religious Women’s Organization, stated that women no longer want to remain at the mercy of the men.
Women constitute approximately 15 to 17 percent of the NRP membership. When the slate was formed for the May Knesset (Israeli Parliament) elections, the women’s group threatened to remove their candidate from the NRP list because of her low position on the list, but they were persuaded to remain.
