Agadot Amitiyot (True Legends: 50 Women to Grow Up With in Israel) is a new book for young readers, in Hebrew, inspired by Rebel Girls and anthologies of glass-ceiling breakers around the world. Initiated by a design collective dedicated to gender equality, Bezalel Art School graduates Tal Maimon, Maureen Glimore, and Ella Moskowitz brought in writer Shoham Smith, and together they selected inspiring women from Golda Meir to pop singer Dana International. Among them: Dorit Beinisch, the first female president of the Israel Supreme Court; Sara Levi-Tanai, choreographer and founder of the Inbal Dance Company; Berta Landau, founder of the Tipat Halav mother & child health clinics; Tsivya Lubetkin, a leader of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising; Lucy Aharish, the first Muslim Arab news presenter on Hebrew-language Israeli television; Adina Bar-Shalom, founder of the first college for ultra-Orthodox students in Jerusalem; and Amal Al-Sana Al-Hajuj who, at 17, established the first Bedouin organization to improve the status of women. Fifty different illustrators created the book’s unique images. facebook.com/AgadotAmitiyot
